(A) Introduction：
Phor Tay is celebrating its 70th Anniversary this year. Phor Tay Institute was founded by Ven. Fang Lian from Xiamen in 1935. Later, Phor Tay Kindergarten, Primary School and High School were established. In 1962, the board of directors agreed to convert the High School to National Type High School and established Phor Tay Private High School.

In 2007, the Ministry of Education approved the relocation of SMJK Phor Tay to the South West District of Penang. Phor Tay Private High School, Primary School and Kindergarten remain at the old premise at Jalan Bagan Jermal. SMJK Phor Tay started as a co-educational in its new premise was started in 2009 and its enrolment has since increased.

In conjunction with the 70th Anniversary, we are pleased to inform you that we are organizing a Mani Mantra Puja from 4 to 6 September 2010. H.E. Thritsab Gyabra Rinpoche, and Sangha members of Tibetan Tradition will lead the Recitation of Mani Mantra. Lamp-lighting, penitent service and meal offering will also be held. Sangha members of Mahayana Tradition will perform a Three-Session of Pure Land Chanting on the evening of 12 September to transfer merits to all sentient beings as well as the departed relatives, friends and karmic creditors.

Mani Mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” is the heart mantra of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva (Guan Yin) and the essence of the Buddhas. The mantra embodies perfect compassion, and is the core of the 84,000 Teachings of all the Buddhas.

The merits accrued from this auspicious ceremony will be transferred for world peace, well being of the people and the country as well as all sentient beings.
